Tuesday October 3rd: Move on

“And they went on to another village.”

Luke 9: 51 – 56

“Lord do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them.” This was the reaction of James and John, when the people of the Samaritan village did not welcome Jesus. On reflection I recognize that this can be a normal reaction in dealing with situations, where others might have hurt us. We too are rebuked by Jesus, for He wants us to show mercy. Remember Peter’s question, how many times should we forgive, and Jesus’s response seventy times seven. We are also reminded of the need to forgive every time we say the Lord’s Prayer.

This gospel narrative also demonstrates that Jesus was very focused determined to continue His journey to Jerusalem to complete His mission. Thus, “they went on to another village”. Sometimes we experience obstacles on our mission, but we must just move on as necessary.

Jesus we ask today for mercy, as we learn to forgive others. May we foster a repentant heart.

Amen.
