Monday October 2nd: Guardian Angels

“He is more eager to help you than you are to be helped!”

Matthew 18: 1 – 5, 10

Today, the Church celebrates the feast of the Holy Guardian Angels. Their mission is to do whatever they can to protect our souls, help us avoid sin and spiritual dangers and gain entrance to heaven.

Saints, such as Padre Pio and Gemma Galgani, had the privilege of seeing and speaking to their guardian angels. Actively seeking them out, however, is forbidden by the doctrine of the church as ‘Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light’ (2 Cor. 11:14).

“When tempted, invoke your angel. He is more eager to help you than you are to be helped! Ignore the devil and do not be afraid of him: he trembles and flees at the sight of your guardian angel.” (St. John Bosco)

So today I pray:
Angel of God, my guardian dear,
To whom God’s love commits me here,
Ever this day be at my side,
To light and guard, rule and guide.

Amen.
