For her 100th birthday, Orthelese Punny Thomas of Caratal, Gasparillo received a Papal Blessing from the Holy Father.
The scroll was presented to her by Parish Priest, Fr Shijo Abraham MSFS, Fr Wilfred John, and Rev Ian Bourne following a celebratory Mass at the Sacred Heart RC Church, Gasparillo on Friday, September 15.
The Mass followed a celebration the previous day, Thursday, September 14, her birthday, at her home. It was attended by family, friends and well-wishers.
A representative of Minister Donna Cox and other officials of The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services attended and presented her with among other things, a birthday cake and a plaque.
When asked the secret of her longevity she cited work, respect for her elders and a prayerful life.
Her advice to the young people, “young people have to learn to be obedient, live as good Christians. Forget all the worldly affairs…think about God, He has us here and without Him we are nowhere.”
