“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord’ and do not do what I say?”
Luke 6:43-49
In His concluding words of the Sermon on the Plain, Jesus challenges his disciples and us to put his words into action. Listening and then acting on what he says will be like the person who builds his house on a rock foundation so when the floods come, it cannot shake that house. Conversely, if we don’t act on what he says we will be like the person who builds his house on soil, on what does not last, so that house will collapse, and everything ruined.
Our twin-island republic holds Discipline, Tolerance and Production as our watchwords – the rock foundation our state is built on. Living these values will see us through the troubled times that will come. However, failure to act upon them and similar values, will surely lead us nowhere like the person who built his house on soil and was destroyed when the floods came.
Lord, help us to build our lives on you, our rock foundation so that when the floods come, we will not be destroyed. Amen.
