On our mission to preach the gospel by the fulfillment of our state in life, we experience the retaliation of the evil one. In marriage, it may be through a misunderstanding between spouses; as a parent, perhaps through opposing ideologies between parent and child; or it may come through a negative situation in the workplace.
Whilst we do not go looking for the devil under every rock, as a priest once said, he may be found under every other rock.
What is its purpose? Despair and division. To lose hope and abandon the way. Sometimes we may feel bombarded and cannot see our way or struggle to keep our heads above water.
What is Jesus’ remedy? First, discernment of the spirit, that is, determine the nature of the attack. Second, launch the appropriate counterattack: prayer, fasting and staying in the presence of the Divine Will. Third, press on in Faith.
