A ‘big up’ for ‘Mr Chung’

We feature those unheralded persons in the parishes committed to selling this publication. We appreciate all who have contributed to this ministry over the years, helping to deliver this paper into the hands of the people in the pews.

WE FEATURE:

Claudius Jackson aka ‘Mr Chung’, St Vincent Ferrer RC Church, Moruga

Q: How long have you been involved in selling the paper?

I’ve been selling for a very long time now.

Q: Why did you get involved?

The person who used to do it before me was a very old lady. I used to assist her and when she passed, I took over fully.

Q: What is your approach to encourage people to buy or read the paper in your parish?

Honestly, I get a good name. They call my name up on the altar and ‘big me up’! I also really enjoy interacting with the other parishioners. They even call me when I’m not there to find out where I am and ask me to save a paper for them. They miss me when they don’t see me.

I would usually engage with them by carrying the paper to show them the liturgy. I explain to them the importance of the readings and that there is no point in coming if they do not buy a paper to follow along. I even encourage them to read the rest of the articles when they get home.

Q: How do you think the paper can be better promoted to Catholic faithful?

I think if you continue to engage with parishioners, you will get more people to buy the paper.

Q: To be a seller you most probably also read the paper. What are your favourite pages or columns?

My favourite page is the liturgy (Mass page), but I read the entire paper. Another notable page is Archbishop Gordon’s column at the back.

Look out for more as we continue to salute our sellers.
