Everyone must be personally prepared so that no one is caught unaware.
Matthew 25: 1 – 13
Jesus says that the kingdom of heaven is likened to ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five were sensible because they brought extra oil and five were foolish because they did not bring extra oil. It so happened that the bridegroom was late.
While they waited, the sensible bridesmaids’ lamps remained lit because they had extra oil, while the foolish bridesmaids’ lamps started to go out due to their lack of preparation. When the bridegroom finally arrived, the sensible ones were ready and went into the wedding feast with him, but the foolish ones did not.
The lesson is the importance of being prepared and vigilant for the return of Jesus (symbolized by the bridegroom). Disciples need to be ready, spiritually and morally always. The oil is a symbol of faith and a personal relationship with God. It is not possible to borrow someone else’s preparedness or faith. Everyone must be personally prepared so that no one is caught unaware.
