The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin
“…. The Almighty has done great things for me”
Luke 1:39-56
Mary is our model of what it means to let go. She travelled many miles to share in the joy of the miracle of her cousin Elizabeth, in her old age, becoming pregnant. The impossible had become possible. Just like her own immaculate conception foretold by the angel. Mary had to “let go” of the way she had envisioned her life and accept what God had planned for her, just like Elizabeth. They both found joy in their choices.
It is difficult, sometimes impossible, to let go of our hurts, our disappointments, our mistakes. Consumed with the wrong others have done us, we allow it to eat away at our hearts and even our very souls. It could kill us if we are not careful.
Yet, Mary has shown us the benefits of letting go and letting God make the impossible possible. It is not an easy journey but with the Lord as our focus, we can say with Mary: “… the Almighty has done great things for me.”
