Two deacons to be ordained on Aug 15, 2023

Archbishop Charles Jason Gordon will preside at the ordination of two priests for the Archdiocese of Port of Spain 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 15 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Port of Spain.

They are Augustine Kintu, 36 years and 37-year-old Mathias Mulumba Ssajjabbi, from Uganda. They were ordained to the permanent diaconate  November 21, 2022, at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, Curepe. Both were religious Brothers with the Missionaries of the Poor in Jamaica.

They entered the Seminary of St John Vianney and the Uganda Martyrs, Tunapuna in 2017.  Ahead of their ordination, Deacon Mathias felt excited. Becoming a priest was something he was longing for. He told The Catholic News, “I feel blessed God has allowed us to be become His servants”. Deacon Augustine said he too felt some excitement, saying, “it is something I have been journeying for, for years”.
