The seed is packed with potential for growth, life and fruit.
Matthew 13: 18 – 23
As we listen to and reflect on the parable of the Sower, we can ask ourselves, Which soil am I? Am I like the edge of the path, the rocky ground, the thorny ground, the rich soil or a little of each?
The soil must receive the seed and provide the best conditions for its germination, growth and production. If the conditions are not ideal or not even good, the seed may perish, it may thrive but not be the best plant, or it grow and produce nothing. The seed needs rich soil.
The seed is the word of God which the Lord scatters in abundance among us. There is nothing wrong with the seed. It is packed with potential for growth, life and fruit. We are the soil who must provide ideal conditions for the seed to grow and bear fruit.
Are we receptive to God’s word? Are we protective of God’s word? Do we nurture God’s word in us? Will God’s word live and bear fruit in us?
