Bishop: Pray for peace

ST VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES

Following the mass shooting incident July 19, Bishop Gerard County of Kingstown has announced that the Prayer for Peace for St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) be reintroduced at all Masses with immediate effect. This, he said, is to be undertaken personally and at all Masses, especially on Sundays.

Bishop County, in a letter, July 20, to faithful on the recent murders in St Vincent said that the diocese is shocked and horrified by the killing of five people. He observed homicides are becoming a weekly feature of the nation’s social landscape.

Local news source stvincenttimes.com reported 35 homicides for the year, with 32 of these classified as murders.

The Bishop, via catholicsvg.org wrote, “We are all concerned about this situation and are deeply affected. Of course, you would agree that a number of social factors are at the root of these happenings, the family being the most evident of all.”

He acknowledged, “because we cannot remove ourselves, as church, from our neighbour’s plight, but rather are called to be in solidarity with each other.”

Bishop County reminded as people of God, to rely on the help of the Almighty.

“Let us pray for this situation, for the families involved, and for our nation,” he urged.
