Whatever keeps us apart from others, we can bring it to Jesus who is always ready to heal and restore.

The leper’s statement to Jesus – ‘if you want to, you can cure me’, is truly heartbreaking. A leper is a tragically lonely person. Leprosy was not merely a physical disease, it resulted in being ostracised from family, friends, society and the synagogue. A leper lost everything, not just his health. If Jesus healed him, He would not only be restoring his body, but also his relationships.

Jesus is always concerned about our relationships. He wants us to share friendships, be with family, have fraternity, gather with the faith community and be able to reach out and interact with others. Jesus does not want us to be isolated. We were not made to be apart from others.

Filled with deep concern and compassion, Jesus said, “Of course I want to! Be cured!” Jesus always wants to restore us to the fullest life possible. Whatever keeps us apart from others, we can bring it to Jesus who is always ready to heal and restore. Come to Jesus today and be healed!
