“By their fruits you will know them.”
Matthew 7:15-20
Wolves are inherently dangerous predators. If you recognize them from afar you will turn tail and run. However, when they come in sheep’s clothing that is an entirely different story. These false prophets, these wolves against whom Jesus sounded a stern warning in today’s Gospel were prevalent in his time and so too, today.
Will we recognize them if they present a narrative that has gained popularity, but which is erroneous and not founded on truth and wholesome values? What if they seek to prey on the hearts and minds of the young and innocent in subtle ways, using legislative power as they operate from under the disguise of sheep’s clothing?
Jesus made it quite clear that the real acid test is the fruit. “By their fruits you will know them,” he says. And we here done know that sandbox tree can’t bear mango. or wild caraille vine won’t give you ochro. If we fall for their lies, we will reap what they sow.
Lord, save our children. Amen.
