‘Enter by the narrow gate, since the road that leads to destruction is wide and spacious, and many take it; but it is a narrow gate and a hard road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
Matthew 7: 6, 12-14
Jesus reminds us that the road to the kingdom is difficult and narrow, and few find it. There are two ways. The decision between the two ways is through a gate, to get to the entrance of this path. Jesus also appeals to us to be careful when making a choice. He urges us to go the more difficult way; it leads to life. Not all the ways are equally good. There is a right way and a wrong way. The wrong one leads to destruction.
If we want to follow Christ, we must look for the narrow gate and enter it regardless of the direction those around us are taking and regardless of the difficulties on the way. If your road has a gate that is easy and well-travelled, watch out!
June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and access to His Heart is through the narrow opening in His pierced side. Jesus is calling us to His heart. Let us enter His Sacred Heart every day.
