Monday June 26th: Judge gently

Never noticed the plank in my own.

Matthew 7:1-5

How often have I observed the splinter in my brother’s eye and never notice the plank in my own? On numerous occasions! This passage sent me conscience searching, so perfect is it in preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Search me, O God.
How many times have I judged the behavior of others without correcting my own. It has been said that what I do not like in others, I see in me. A friend used to say, “Judge gently.” Take out the plank. It blinds self-vision.
Do unto yourself as you do unto others and see how you like it. Remember the judgements you give…you will get. Jesus strongly rebuked that action going so far as to call us “Hypocrite” and sends us forthwith to change our attitude. When was the last time I judged someone? Search me, O God.
My call is to compassion, to change the lens of criticism and negative thinking with tolerance of the other. No one is perfect. Search me, O God.
