“… your Father knows what you need before you ask him!”
Matthew 6: 7-15
Today’s gospel is interesting, since it’s not possible to start a conversation with God. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that when we pray, we are actually responding to a conversation God has already been trying to start with us. As such, when we look at the Our Father, we should recognize that every request and every part of the Our Father is already rooted within and has been rooted in us since the beginning of creation.
We are naturally called to hallow God’s name. It’s in our design to want God’s kingdom and God’s will. We are naturally made up to want what’s best for us or “our daily bread”. And the same for forgiveness and deliverance from evil. So why say this ‘Lord’s Prayer’? For the grace to live it out.
Let us continue to ask God for an outpouring of all the graces that come with prayer. May we gain the strength and virtue to live out what God has called us to from the beginning.
