Caritas donates wheelchairs to hospital

ST LUCIA

The Archdiocese of Castries, through its Social Action Agency – Caritas Saint Lucia donated 45 wheelchairs valued at EC$5000 to the management of the Owen King European Hospital (OKEU).

This is not the first time the Catholic Church has donated items to institutions and persons on the island. A release dated June 1 from Marcia Haywood, the Regional Coordinator of the local arm of Caritas Antilles stated for over 30 years, the Church has continued to donate food, sports gear, school furniture, medical supplies, machinery, farm tools and equipment, literature and a variety of other items to schools, institutions, hospitals, religious denominations etc, particularly to aid the poor.

Caritas is a member organisation of Caritas Internationalis, a confederation of 169 Catholic, relief, development, and social service organisations present in over 200 countries and territories.

The release said Caritas continues to be concerned about the integral development of all persons, particularly the vulnerable and emphasises a preferential option for the poor.

It currently has its longstanding project called the Youth Emergency Action Committees (YEAC) targeting at-risk youth in Bexon, Monchy, Forestierre, La Clery Marchand and Ti Rocher, Castries in the areas of Emergency Response and Mitigation and Youth Development.
