‘…how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?’
Mark 12: 18-27
The Sadducees assumed the role of the devil’s advocate and challenged Jesus with a hypothetical confusing case, not aware that Jesus knew His scripture and of course knew His Father God. As such, He brings up the story of Moses at the burning bush to underline that God revealed He is God of the living, not of the dead. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are therefore very much alive!
The Sadducees were confined by the old law and their beliefs created tunnel vision which in turn blocked hearing or having open-mindedness to something new. We too can ask the wrong questions and suffer from selective hearing, which in turn limits us from receiving the true message of Jesus.
Am I a bit like them? Can I trust God to bring me safely home, or do I think I am abandoned at my death and lost thereafter? Till death do us part does not pertain to our Heavenly Father; He is the Ever-Living God.
