To become the domestic Church, families must ask God to send His Holy Spirit.
Archbishop Charles Jason Gordon also called on families to “thirst for God” and become the domestic Church through sacrifice. He said when the family lives by sacrifice, it becomes a community of life and love. “That is who you are – you are a community of sacrifice,” the Archbishop said as he preached the homily May 27 at a ‘Pentecost Mass for Families’ at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Cathedral Administrator Fr Martin Sirju concelebrated; Rev Derek Walcott proclaimed the Gospel and assisted.
The Mass, organised by Archdiocesan Family Life Commission, began with a liturgical dance for the Enthronement of the Bible, and an entrance procession with families.
After the homily, Winston and Debbie Garcia of People of Praise led the congregation in a time of prayer, praying “Holy Spirit, our families are thirsting for you” and “Holy Spirit, breathe new life into our homes.”
Earlier in the liturgy the couple, along with their children – Jeanne-Marie, Philip, Kristen, Jon-Paul, and Jeremy – led the congregation in the Penitential Rite for families.
The congregation included members of the T&T contingent to World Youth Day Lisbon 2023 in August. —RS
