The watchful eye of the Son of God is a demonstration of the extent of his care and concern.
John 17:11-19
In today’s Gospel the verses of the priestly prayer of Jesus reveal that we all fall within the radar of his love. The watchful eye of the Son of God is a demonstration of the extent of his care and concern for all who have been given to him by the Father. As a hen jealously hovers over her brood, safeguarding its welfare, so too he endeavors to extend his love, warmth and protection over all; all who would allow him. What a joy it is to know and experience this; and what an even greater joy to share it!
In last Sunday’s Gospel Jesus articulated our mission, commanding that we go out into the whole world to share the good news. Today we are reminded as we go out that we are to be in the world but not of the world. We are also assured of protection from the evil one. How comforting it is to know that whatever we experience we have been consecrated in the truth. His Word is truth.
