“Eternal life…is a gift partly given now.”
John 17:1-11
It always warms my heart when I learn that someone is praying for me, or has offered up my name in a Mass. I often say to those around me, with the utmost sincerity, that the gift of prayer is the most powerful thing we have to offer as a prayer can go where we cannot.
How special it is then to be witness, through the words of today’s Gospel, to the High Priestly prayer of Jesus, his intimate conversation with His Father. Jesus is praying for those who belong to him. He is praying for you and for me! He asks the Father to protect those who have been entrusted to him.
We hear too that the Lord desires for us eternal life. And eternal life is this – to know God and to know Jesus. But eternal life is not just for a time when our eyes are closed in death; it is a gift partly given now in our faith.
May our God be glorified as we live out our faith daily, authentically, fully, joyfully.
