“I am the vine, you are the branches.”
John 15:1-8
By declaring that He is the Vine and we are the branches, Jesus establishes that He is the power and energy source by which we live. We live in Him and He lives in us.
If we live apart from Him, we will die spiritually and live meaningless lives.
On the other hand, what does it look like if we are attached to the Vine? It means that we would experience, inter alia, a steady communion with God the Father, the vine-grower, speaking with Him deeply and regularly; a steady immersion in the truth of the scriptures; a steady immersion in the life of the Church, the Body of Christ; and also practice the corporal and spiritual works of Mercy.
Most importantly, it would mean participating in the Sacraments, especially that of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. In this way, we stay close to Christ and are filled with the Holy Spirit.
Lord, help us to abide in You.
