Friday May 5th: A friend and much more

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me.”

John 14: 1 – 6

Jesus tells the disciples to trust him and not let their hearts be troubled. Friends say that to each other all the time, ‘trust me’. We can trust a friend. We can trust a mentor. We can trust a parent or family member. We can trust the person we have a relationship with. Jesus tells the disciples to trust him because He is a friend, a brother, a mentor, a companion, and above all their Saviour. We can trust Jesus.

Trusting Jesus holds a promise. On this occasion His promise is, He is going to prepare a place for us in His Father’s house. Jesus was going away, not because He wanted to abandon them, but to prepare the way.

Jesus’ one desire is that we are wherever He is. He does not want to lose any of us. That is an incredibly comforting word, especially in times of uncertainty, anxiety and fear. Jesus assures us the He has a place for us because He wants us to be with Him.
