Monday April 24th: “Seeking out” Jesus

When they found him on the other side of the lake, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here”?

John 6: 22-29

Today’s Gospel highlights two deeper truths about “seeking out” Jesus. As were the crowd, many of us are searching for Jesus in the wrong places. Many of us are waiting for him in the wrong area of our life.

After we have had a fulfilling encounter with Jesus, we often believe that an effort on our part is no longer required. We believe that we can just wait where we are, and Jesus will continue to come to us. However, today’s Gospel shows us that we can often “find him on the other side” of our situation.

Secondly, we often search for Jesus for the wrong reason. Are we only seeking out Jesus for temporary pleasures and self-satisfaction? Or are we searching for “food that endures to eternal life”?

Let us continue to ask the Holy Spirit to guide us on a path that always leads to Jesus. And let us pray for wisdom to want the things of Christ that will lead us to the Father for eternity.
