Thursday April 13th: Mind-Opening Faith

“Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures”.

Luke 24:35-48

I cannot begin to imagine how traumatic and confusing it might have been for the apostles. They barely had time to process seeing Jesus crucified, then hearing from the women that His body is not in the tomb and now He is being seen by these two disciples. It would have seemed surreal, to say the least; and to crown it off they saw Jesus in the flesh!  This would have definitely opened their minds.

There are times in our spiritual journey when we find it hard to really live and experience the resurrection Jesus is pointing us to because we are too burdened by the crosses we are bearing and the sadness and depression we feel. Jesus wants our minds and hearts to be opened to understanding the Word, just as it happened with those to whom He appeared. On this Thursday in the Octave of Easter, let us focus on the joy and love of the risen Christ.  He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Jesus, help us to experience mind-opening faith.
