Is Jesus free to walk freely across our entire lives or are there places he must not visit, or see?
John 7:1-2. 10. 25-30
In today’s gospel, we see that Jesus was the talk of the town, but not in a good way. Because of the way they spoke about him he could not go freely everywhere. He travelled round Galilee but could not travel round Judaea. Public opinion of him varied from suspicion to apprehension scepticism. They even thought they had him figured out.
As we continue our Lenten journey, reflect on two things. The first is, what place does Jesus occupy in our lives? Do we let him into the deepest recesses of our hearts or are we selective about the things we tell him? Is Jesus free to walk freely across our entire lives or are there places he must not visit, or see?
The second is, what is our opinion of Jesus? We might take it for granted we know Jesus. But examine more closely, do we know him based on what others have said or do we know him because we each have a personal relationship with him?
