Mark 12: 28 – 34
The question today is, ‘which is the greatest commandment?’ to which Jesus replied, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength.” And there is a second, “You must love your neighbour as yourself.
How do we love God with our whole being? Two ways come to mind. The first is worship and prayer. True and sincere worship and prayer must be at the heart of our lives. They demonstrate not only our love for God but also the central place that God has in our lives. The second is obedience. Jesus was obedient to the Father. Nothing ought to stand in the way of our obedience to God. We must hear His voice first and obey His will first.
How do we love our neighbour? We can serve them generously, forgive whenever necessary, be empathic and be just. Experience teaches us that loving God and neighbour requires commitment and effort, which we must make despite any challenges.
