This is a wicked generation, it is asking for a sign
Luke 11: 29 – 32
Today’s gospel reminds me of when my daughter knowingly does something wrong and immediately says, “Sorry Mommy”. Should I accept it because she understands, or should I still discipline her because it may be insincere?
The first reading expounds on the story of Jonah and the Ninevites and when I read it, I picked up my bible to see what happened next because I couldn’t believe that was it. How quickly Jonah’s word was accepted and even more baffling how seemingly easy God relented. I understood Jonah’s anger in chapter 4, although I know God would know their hearts.
And then Jesus’ acclaim that this generation is asking for a sign made sense. We have become so skeptical, made worse by the insincerity of social media. A generation of doubting Thomases!
I pray today that I do not allow the influence of the world to impact my belief and faith in our risen Lord.
