Carenage Carnival Sunday celebrations

The Holy Spirit was indeed moving in Carenage on this glorious Carnival Sunday (February 19) in an atmosphere of prayer-filled anticipation which began with Mass.

The choir’s selection was vibrant and electrifying. Hands were raised and lips moved in unison as prayers were said aloud.

As families entered, they registered their respective bands and once Mass was over, the families and ministries who participated were given a prize for partaking in the St Peter’s Carnival Band of the year. Band size did not matter, it was all-inclusive.

There were mini bands of one, two or three family members as well as ministry bands who easily filled the large band category…at least by our standards.

This experience was exceptional, the Mass, the music and the participation by the parishioners was truly spirit filled in an atmosphere of fun.

The Individuals and Bands who participated were ‘Coming to America in African Print’, ‘All for Jesus – Service with a Smile’, ‘The Choir Family’, ‘Blue Angels’, ‘King & Queen Franklyn’, ‘Those Guys’, ‘Sobions’, ‘Alana’s Band’ and ‘Savannah on Fire’.

‘All for Jesus – Service with a smile’ was judged as band of the year in their smart black pants, orange tee-shirts and hats adorned in colourful sashes and feathers. ‘The Choir Family’ was the largest band on parade in their white tops and black pants and fancy headbands. The largest family band was the Sobions, all decked out in their vibrantly red tee-shirts.

Wait…I’m sure you didn’t know that St Peter’s Carnival Sunday was an all-inclusive of Mass, Music and Meals. To round off this fantastic morning there was an after-Mass Breakfast Lime that served scrumptious bake and channa, and ham & hops with all the trimmings.
