Sunday February 26th: Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness

We shape the future with our choices.

Matthew 4:1-11

Each day I feel a tinge of wretchedness in my soul. Sometimes near desolation. I am aware of the nudge. Hmmm. ‘The Spirit calling meh.’ Calling meh to the wilderness. But will I go?

Our choices have power. Each and every choice we make, regardless how small, enhances our power. The choices Jesus made in the wilderness, ‘man shall not live by bread alone’, cemented his power over adversaries yet to come. Victory over the tempter, set the stage for victory over Pilate and Herod, the Scribes and Pharisees, and the whole Sanhedrin.

The beautiful thing about choices is you have more to make. They keep coming like waves in the ocean. Choices got you here, but if you don’t like ‘here’ all you need to do is start making different choices. You have the opportunity to make another choice tomorrow.

Decision making is a powerful force. We shape the future with our choices. Some moments are holy, some moments are unholy; and our choices can guide a moment in either direction.
