Monday February 20th: Take Pity, Lord

“Let’s get honest with Jesus for our deliverance.”

Mark 9: 14-29

We can only be liberated from the bondage caused by sin through a deep encounter with Jesus. We all have flaws, defects, burdens and bad habits that can make us disagreeable. Perhaps, we have even made excuses for our behaviour by saying, “that’s how I am”.

While we may not be responsible for all the negativity, hurt, trauma, rejection that we have gone through, it can make us abrasive. As we enter into Lent this year, let us resolve to bring all the undesirable parts of us to Jesus for healing. Through prayer and fasting, let us examine our souls candidly, preferably in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

We need to tackle each fault or bad habit one at a time and get honest with Jesus about it.  Picture Jesus looking tenderly and saying, “My precious child, how long have you been like this?” Then, just tell him. Go back as far as your childhood and tell him honestly and then let him deliver you from it.

Prayer, Lord Jesus, take pity on us and help us.
