Sunday February 5th: Living with purpose

“You are the salt of the earth…. You are the light of the world.”

Matthew 5:13-16

Jesus’ words to his disciples are a call to action. He reminds them of their significance and impact on the world as they embody the qualities of salt and light. Salt, known for its ability to preserve and enhance flavour, represents the role of the disciples as agents of change and preservation in the world.

Similarly, light symbolizes the presence of hope and guidance, shining in the darkness to lead people to a better way of living. However, Jesus warns the disciples about the danger of losing their purpose and ability to bring change.

This passage challenges us to live our lives with courage and confidence, to be shining lights in a world often filled with darkness and despair. It reminds us to live in a way that brings glory to God, and to let our actions serve as a witness to His love and grace.

So, let us live boldly, knowing that a city set on a mountain cannot be hidden, and that our lives have the power to make a positive impact on the world around us.
