“King Herod heard about Jesus since by now his name was well-known.”
Mark 6: 14 – 29
Although this Herod did not become perturbed as his father was in another passage, he did show some signs of being troubled by Jesus’ presence.
It maybe natural for people to have different reactions to hearing about Jesus. Some people find it comforting and reassuring, while others may feel worried or uncertain.
For Christians, in particular, hearing about Jesus is a cause for joy and hope. The blind man, in Jericho, heard about Jesus and was filled with hope. The people heard about Jesus, and they brought their sick for him to heal them. The shepherds heard about Jesus and hurried to see him. The Magi heard about Jesus and journeyed from afar to bring him gifts.
Hearing about Jesus should not make us concerned, rather it should make us exult. Hearing about Jesus is a reminder of the grace, forgiveness and unconditional love we receive through him. This can be a sense of joy and peace for believers.
