Raise consciousness to move forward in 2023

GRENADA

Bishop Clyde Harvey of St Georges-in-Grenada believes that 2023 offers the perspective that persons can continue the dreams of cultural icons such as Trinidadians Hazel Ward-Redman, a television personality and calypsonian Dr Leroy ‘Black Stalin’ Calliste.

The Trinidad-born bishop described Black Stalin as a “prophet par excellence” for those who want to rid the country of the sufferers and raise the consciousness of people.

“As a matter of fact, as a Catholic priest, I would suggest Black Stalin could be the patron saint of Eye on Dependency. That means that every Sunday, you find something from Stalin to play that will change people’s consciousness,” Bishop Harvey said in a brief voice note to the radio station programme.

Eye on Dependency is a registered NGO and the brainchild of Garth St Clair, who along with his wife Natasha Nunez, host a weekly radio show (Sundays 10 a.m.–12 p.m.) on i95.5FM and www.i955fm.com in Trinidad and Tobago.

Bishop Harvey was one of the officiants at the couple’s wedding.

Singing Black Stalin’s ‘We can make it if we try’, and ‘Wait Dorothy wait’, Bishop Harvey emphasised it is in this spirit that he is entering 2023 and “I want to invite all of you to take up that local spirit.”

He explained, “it’s not a thing of listening to people from outside. But there are people among us here who have messages for us that we have to listen to, and I really want to urge you all to join with Garth and Natasha in this crusade for the sake of the nation, to get into the belly of the nation.”

Bishop Harvey observed while some may opine that Trinidad and Tobago is on the wrong path, “we dare to say as long as we have people like Stalin, like [David] Rudder, like Sparrow at his best, to open up our consciousness, to open up our awareness, and to teach us how we might go forward….”

The Bishop then thanked hosts Garth and Natasha for having excellent people on their programme over the years. “And I think you will do just as well in 2023,” he said.

Referring to the numerals 2023, Bishop Harvey commented the figures amount to seven, which in scripture represents fulfilment or luck to others.

He extended both luck and divine blessings to all.

He ended replacing the lyrics of Black Stalin’s ‘We can make it if we try’:

‘We can make it if we try, just a little harder

In 2023 we try, to make Trini life much sweeter.’
