‘For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”’
Matthew 11:28-30
In the Gospel today we are given the simplest of invitations. Jesus says to come, come as we are; tired, and burdened. Following Jesus doesn’t mean we are released from all responsibility. To take Christ’s yoke upon us means to be faithful to the Gospel and to submit to God’s will for our lives.
Jesus is clear. There are expectations when following Him which won’t always be easy. Fortunately, He’s gentle. He isn’t like other things we might be propelled to yoke our lives to which ultimately weigh us down or even create anxiety. In the most difficult of times, we can find rest and peace because we are yoked to Him. We aren’t going through life alone and by our own strength.
Heavenly Father, Advent is a time when you call me, to come to rest in you. Let me not be afraid to respond to your invitation but help me to find security and peace in You. May this Advent be a time of deepening my relationship with you.
