“ Sky and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”
Luke 21: 29 – 33
Jesus says his words are not like the seasons. The seasons change but his words will not.
Change is inevitable and disconcerting. The seasons change every year. But so do many things that pertain to our lives. We grow older every day, month and year. We may relocate, change jobs, become ill, receive news of someone’s death. Some changes we expect and accept. Others shake us up.
The wonderful news today is that in the midst of all the changes that occur, good and bad, Jesus’ words remain as the one constant in our lives. We can hang onto to Jesus’ every word. They are life and stability.
He said: ‘Trust in me’; ‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life’; ‘I am going to prepare a place for you’; ‘Do not be afraid’. Those are words that we can take comfort in. They take away our fears and doubts.
Daily Bible readings give us words to live by, to shape our lives, to guide us and to give us hope.
