Luke 21: 12 – 19
Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for resisting the oppressive apartheid regime of South Africa. The non-violence movement in the US led by Martin Luther King Junior and others in the southern USA in the 50’s and 60’s resulted in his assassination. The changes brought about in these two countries could not have happened without the perseverance and endurance of men and women committed to justice and peace but faithful to the values of Jesus.
“By your endurance you will gain your souls”. We have been taught that we must persevere. Jesus persevered to the cross. On the physical journey he got up, each of the three times he fell under the weight of the cross. Even when his disciples did not get his teaching, Jesus lovingly persevered in teaching them.
Someone shared the story of an abused woman who after aborting twice, wanted to come to reconciliation and so, took the necessary steps. It was a hard road for her. However, in spite of having fallen she did not give up. We thank God that our endurance will gain our souls,
