The Holy Name Convent Past Pupils’ Association will celebrate its alma mater’s 120-year legacy in educating women on November 26, 2022 at Holy Name Convent Secondary School, Port of Spain.
The event, an Evening of Light will begin with a celebratory Mass at 5 p.m. in the Marian Hall and will be followed by a food-inclusive soirée in the school’s courtyard. The event is open to every member of the HNC community, including past pupils, spouses, parents, friends, and family.
An Evening of Light was inspired by the school’s motto Veritas and the monogram of the Dominican Sisters of St Catherine of Siena, founders of the school.
The monogram represents and arrow piercing the darkness. This inspiration was gathered one evening in the school’s courtyard reveling in the peaceful strength within the Holy Name’s walls while looking back on all the noteworthy accomplishments of Holy Name over these 120 years that began with the conviction of the Dominican Sisters to educating young women.
November 1902 could be regarded as the birth month of Holy Name Convent, as a school. November 2022 was therefore fitting to celebrate this milestone.
The Past Pupils’ Association will be hosting an Evening of Light to:
· Commemorate the 120-year legacy of Holy Name Convent Secondary School (Port of Spain), in educating a diverse range of women, many of whom are trailblazers in their respective fields
· Pay homage to the founders of this institution, the Dominican Sisters of St Catherine of Siena
· Allow all generations to reunite with classmates, teachers, and their families to create new memories in a cherished space
· Raise funds to undertake refurbishment work on the school’s chapel that has been a source of spiritual development for generations and is also a historical site.
The food inclusive soirée will be led by five of Holy Name Convent’s past pupils within the food industry. These women will join forces on this evening for the common good of their alma mater.
Food stations will be hosted by Debra Sardinha-Metivier, Owner and Chef at Foodlingo; Brigette Joseph, a Food Business Consultant & Executive Chef in the Caribbean; Jamie Hadeed-Leotaud, Director at Boomerang Fast Foods; Sarah Whiby, Chef and Co-owner at The Grape Vine Limited; and Melissa Pascal-Perseval, Director, Pascal’s Bakery.
