Beatification cause for the Billings

Did you know that there is a cause for the canonisation of Drs John and Evelyn Billings? On the website www.billings-cause.blog the cause can be found. It notes in the ‘About’ section “WOOMB International – World Organisation Ovulation Method Billings – continues the work of its founders the late Drs John and Evelyn Billings who established the Billings Ovulation Method® of natural fertility regulation.

“Since the deaths of Dr John Billings in 2007 and Dr Lyn Billings in 2013 many people around the world have spoken of their saintly lives and expressed the hope that one day that will be so recognised by the Church.

“The cause for canonisation, if opened, will require documentation of, among other things, evidence that faithful people have been praying to Drs John and Lyn Billings, seeking their intercession for various intentions, particularly for healing of loved ones.

“This blog provides an opportunity for you to leave a comment about the prayers you have made to this saintly couple so that others can join in your prayers, and we can have a record of such intercessions.”

Saints were not completely perfect during their lives here on Earth, but their heroic virtue inspires us to desire their tenacity in living out the faith. The Billings have evidently been generous.

After World War II, they took our Lord’s invitation to “be fruitful and multiply” quite seriously. They had nine children (eight natural and one adopted). One may wonder if they used the Method they developed. Perhaps they did at some point, but they did not develop the Billings Ovulation Method® for themselves. It was the failure of the Rhythm Method for many other couples who struggled to manage the size of their families that led Dr John Billings to find another way of regulating fertility in a natural way.

The Billings Ovulation Method® is now the most studied Method of family planning in the world to date and has assisted many couples with postponing pregnancy and achieving pregnancy.

The Method has even helped women identify reproductive health problems through their charting their cycles using the Method’s way of charting.

God alone knows exactly how many people have been positively impacted by this Method. We at BOMA-TT sometimes have by-the-way discussions with persons who tell us (sometimes years later) of the wonderful effect the Method has had in their lives.

Some have complained that the Method has not worked for them. When we ask about their understanding of the Method and the charting by those persons, we get mixed responses. Some have perceived the Method negatively at first, but later have come to appreciate it.

One example of the Billings’ saintliness comes from here in Trinidad and Tobago. This loving couple visited us in the 1980’s and blessed one of our current senior teachers with such gentle and kind words amid her and her husband’s struggle with sub-fertility.

After the Billings left, this teacher of the Billings Ovulation Method® became pregnant, and the couple now have two children.

Loving Father may … be healed through the intercession of your servants Dr John and Dr Lyn Billings, so that their sanctity may be recognised. May their prayers obtain his/her healing, so that he/she can return to the work in your service that he/she loves so much. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
