‘We are merely servants; we have done no more than our duty
Luke 17: 7-10
Today Jesus presents us with a parable that instructs us on humility. It is appropriate in our world today when we are constantly seeking more than we possess.
There are times when we pray for something and when we do not get it we think that God is not hearing us. We think that we deserve better treatment from God but Jesus reminds us here that we are children of God, made by him, and we are to serve him. He is all-powerful and gives each one what is necessary for soul and body.
We often tend to be looking over the fence and feel that our neighbour’s grass is greener than ours, and this encourages us to use sometimes dishonest means to obtain more.
Jesus, help us to always remember that we are merely servants.
