Long-serving Carmelite passes away

GUYANA

Corpus Christi Carmelite Sister Angela Teresa Bacchus of the Child Jesus passed away at the Corpus Christi Carmelite Convent in Grand Anse, St George, Grenada, Saturday, September 3 at the age of 92. Sr Angela was originally from Guyana. Her life was celebrated with a Funeral Mass Thursday, September 15 at the Blessed Sacrament RC Church, Grand Anse. The chief celebrant was Bishop Clyde Harvey of St George’s.

A Catholic Standard report said that Sr Angela celebrated her 65th Jubilee of religious profession as a Corpus Christi Carmelite in November 2020.

Sr Angela served in Belmont, Trinidad, as Superintendent at St Jude’s, a correctional facility for girls; in England, as a marriage guidance counsellor, social worker, and prison chaplain; and in Guyana as Chaplain at Mercy Hospital, marriage guidance counsellor, and Manager of the St Bernadette’s Hostel for young women, in Georgetown.

Sr Angela also served on the General Council of the Corpus Christi Carmelites. She retired in Grenada in December 2015.
