Become like little children
Matthew 18: 1 – 5
A fitting gospel to celebrate the feast of St Therese of Lisieux. St Therese’s simple and practical approach to spiritual life mirrors Jesus’ call to “become like little children” to enter the kingdom of heaven.
In researching the life of St Therese and “the little way” I was touched by her words as well as what is being described as her simpleness. Paraphrasing a bit, but I connected when she seemed to get confused by the ‘big worded’ doctrines of the church and said “I close the learned book which is breaking my head and drying up my heart, and I take up Holy Scripture. Then all seems luminous to me”
Loving God and doing good is not limited to grand, well-planned events reaching many. It is also in the simple individual prayers, charity and small deeds.
I pray today to follow the example of St Therese and not seek to accomplish great deeds but to show my love for you in “the little way”.
