They are faithful emissaries fulfilling their sacred missions.
John 1: 47-51
Angels ascending and descending…This incessant activity between heaven and earth in a picture on the wall of my grandmother’s prayer corner evoked in me then, a childish sense of awe and wonder. In her own inimitable way she used it as a conversation starter for us as children.
Today reflecting on the Gospel passage, I can make the connection of that image with Jesus’ promise that Nathanael’s recognition of Him as the Son of God, is nothing compared to ‘the greater things’ in store for his disciples!
We celebrate the feast of the Holy Archangels, faithful emissaries fulfilling their sacred missions. However, we cannot lose sight of the fact that Jesus, over whom the angels ascend and descend, is the contact point between heaven and earth and the channel through which all graces and blessings flow. We have a divine connection!
We pray for our families that St Michael will defend us in battle, St Gabriel will give us the strength to do God’s will and St Raphael will bring healing where needed. Amen.
