In his torment in Hades he looked up and saw Abraham a long way off with Lazarus in his embrace.
Luke 16:19-31
The rich man was a Trini, and despite all his riches he was struck down with a heart attack and fell into a diabetic coma. When he revived he said that he was convinced that he had travelled to ‘hell and back’. He coughed and ‘hold his chest’ and exclaimed that he felt something was dislodged from his heart. He felt light and peaceful and like he knew exactly what he had to do. He immediately called for his yard man and told him not to spray black disinfectant by the gate anymore.
Each morning he wakes before dawn and bakes bread. Then he himself walks ‘the mile and a half’ journey from his castle to ‘the gate and back’ to break bread with the hungry. Three times a day, day after day, like a job, he practiced his new found joy. He pondered and muttered to himself: ‘how come I never saw Lazarus before. Like meh cataract cure!’
He gets up now with a new spirit and a mantra: Who… am I… helping… today?
