Read today’s Gospel- John 1:45-51
‘Can anything good come out of Nazareth?’
Many of us have experienced people dismissing us in various circles when we share our views and opinions. Sometimes, we are discriminated against because of our race, colour, and even our place of residence. In today’s gospel, Jesus experiences first-hand, that discrimination from Nathaniel.
As I hear the words, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” I am reminded of the general attitude of many of us in our nation, towards our brothers and sisters who live in certain areas, but especially, in Laventille. We could easily replace the word ‘Nazareth’ with ‘Laventille,’
There are many teachers who on being assigned to specific schools in that area, “to come and see” were initially very skeptical. Many of these same teachers, now say that they are not willing to be moved. In these schools, they have met others whose faith and commitment are so strong that they have come into an awesome encounter with the school community.
May we, like Nathaniel, also encounter Jesus in all our life experiences!
