Monday August 22: Search me, Oh God and know my heart today.

I couldn’t help but chuckle as I imagined Jesus telling off the scribes and Pharisees and they getting more and more material to get rid of Him. Alas, for these hypocrites! These hypocrites! But wait…I stop in mid-air. Who am I to laugh at their chagrin?

Yes. I have to search myself and ask if I too am hypocritical in my zeal to serve God? Jesus reminded us to take the beam from our own eyes before attempting to remove the splinter from our brother’s. Search me, Oh God and know my heart today.

The temptation may be for me to think of others being like the scribes and Pharisees, others in ministry who literally ‘travel over sea and land to make a single proselyte…” Not at all! I must check myself and make sure that I am not a blind guide and who ‘shut up the Kingdom of heaven in men’s faces by my action.

God, examine me and know my heart…guide me in the way that is everlasting.
