Parishioners of St Dominic’s RC Penal celebrated their feast day Sunday, August 7 with a day of reconnection and thanksgiving.
The day’s activities began 7 a.m. with Adoration and Taize Prayer with seminarian David Villafana followed by praise and worship with seminarian Maurice White and the combined choirs of St Dominic’s, St Martin de Porres RC, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of the Rosary, and Good Shepherd RC.
Promptly at 9 a.m., a Requiem Mass/Feast Day Mass of St Dominic de Guzman was concelebrated with Parish Priest Fr Robert Christo and Opus Dei priest from Venezuela Fr Julio Cuan, in both English and Spanish, to accommodate the migrant community.
The first reading was in English and the second in Spanish. After two years of lockdown, the Mass was a thanksgiving for the communities and ministries in the parish and a day of reconnection for parishioners. All were invited to return to church.
In attendance were members of the Lady Hochoy Home, Gasparillo and youths from the parish including the Christ Our Redeemer (COR) teams and the migrant community of Penal.
‘Rebels for Christ’ youth ministry was relaunched after being discontinued for many years. The parish recognised seminarians White and Villafana for their work in the pastoral ministry led by Margaret Bernard, Yukelyn Herralal and Pansey Ayers.
After the Mass, a procession took place through the streets of Penal with dancers Khadisha Griffith and Kedejah Mc Millan at the front. Altar servers and Frs Christo and Cuan led the way to the Holy Faith Convent staff parking lot with persons from the combined parish communities following.
