Tuesday August 16th: Making the impossible, possible

“…for God, everything is possible”

Matthew 19:23-30

What are the requirements for entry into the kingdom of Heaven? When the rich man put this question to Jesus, he was not prepared for the response and went away sad because he was a man of great wealth. Jesus had said one must give up everything, give it to the poor and then follow him.
For Jesus, it was not just about giving up material wealth but rather, developing a certain attitude towards life. To enter this kingdom, this new way of living, requires that we see our lives, possessions, family, friends as gifts which could be taken away at any time. It is about developing an attitude of letting go, of not clinging to things that may be illusory or passing.
Job’s words ring true: “… the Lord gave, and the lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. (Job 1:21)
Ironically, by adopting this attitude, one will gain a hundred times more blessings both here and beyond. With God’s grace everything then is possible.
