Wednesday August 10th: Surrender to Transformation

Moving from where we are to where God wants us to be…

John 12: 24-26

The Gospel today is all about newness and change, moving from where we are to where God wants us to be, in Him.  The grain of wheat is ‘transformed’ into something new when it surrenders itself to be changed.  We have to decide to open ourselves up to be changed in the way Jesus meant for us.  Transformation comes from this complete surrender.

There could be suffering in this process, as the grain has to burst and give way to what is inside it.  This is the example of the martyrs of the Church like Deacon Lawrence, whose life and example, we celebrate today.  Sometimes this newness comes at a cost but then when the grain bursts, it reproduces in time.  So too our suffering will bear much fruit, if only we follow Jesus as He calls us to in today’s passage.

It’s about suffering for what we hold dear.  Stand up for something in your life.  Be an agent for transformation and newness and change!  Jesus promises that God the Father will honour you!
