A treasure is linked to the heart.
Matthew 13:44-46
What thoughts go through your mind with this reading? (Try to find someone to share.) The implication of ‘sells everything he owns’ seemed risky to me yet in each instance, the men do just that. The value of what they found was worth selling everything. Note that Jesus says that the first man goes off happy having found the treasure.
A treasure is linked to the heart and is something desired and longed for; our focus. At different points in our life, we may have different treasures.  But…what is the real treasure that we, as Christians, must be willing to sell everything for? Jesus says it clearly in this and later parables…The Kingdom of Heaven!
As we understand Jesus’ message, we desire to live for that kingdom. Like the two men, we have to risk ‘selling’ everything. Giving up certain friends, possessions, even lifestyle and leisure among other ‘riches’ to find that treasure and peace.
